Oak Forest Academy is a unique blend of three educational models:
Micro School
A microschool is a purposefully small school that offers a complete curriculum and is lead by trained professional educators. It is designed to be flexible while staying true to its guiding principles. It is a grassroots initiative, designed by parents who are committed to a better educational model than the others available.
Forest School
A forest school is one wherein a significant portion of a school day is spent in a forest. We take it one step further: our forest is a living laboratory, providing material to study the sciences, inspire the languages, populate mathematical problems, exercise the body, and inspire the intellect. Our curriculum is designed around our forest.
Montessori School
Most people associate Montessori with early childhood, but Dr. Montessori’s vision for adolescent learning is equally compelling. Dubbed “A Center for Study and Work,” the adolescent school is a place where teens have the opportunity to develop socially in the context of meaningful, adult work. That means the student’s social and moral growth is our prime directive, with academics a necessary component.
We are reimagining high school, choosing:
Interest-driven curriculum over Textbook-driven curriculum
Being a valued member of a community over that lost-in-a-crowd feeling.
Inquiry-driven instruction over lecture-based instruction
Sun light and fresh air over Fluorescent lights and HVAC systems.
